Update: Signing up for Art or Writing

When we opened sign ups this year, we asked people to indicate if they would be interested in signing up for both art and for fic if we decided to allow people to sign up for both. Unfortunately, even with the interest in dual sign-ups, we would still be looking at many more authors than works of art available. To make a long story short:

You may sign up to do art OR sign up to write. You cannot sign up to do both. That has been the policy in the past, and will be the policy for the 2014 exchange as well.

That said, artists are absolutely welcome to sign up as pinch-hit authors!

Reminders:

Sunday, Oct. 19th - Artist signups close
Monday, Oct. 20th - Early Bird art submissions due
Monday, Oct. 27th - Art submissions due

Thursday, October 30 - Art posts go up
Friday, October 31 - Writer sign-ups close
Saturday, November 1 - Claims Open (Time TBD)

Yep, it will be! But that's part of the excitement. It's kinda like attending an auction, and you've got to be a bit of a risk-taking virtual adrenaline junkie. ;)

What happens if there's not enough art available for the writers that have signed up?

That will almost certainly happen, unfortunately. We're giving the artists an opportunity to submit two pieces each, but not all of them will have the time and currently, we're at 193 authors to 101 artists. It will be a scramble on Claims Day, but that's part of the thrill, too!

Why can't two authors claim the same art? That way you get two different fics out of each piece. I'm probably not going to be able to be involved in the scramble because I am not always on my computer and will probably miss the claims. They will most certainly all be claimed by the time I get to view the offerings. I don't want to pull out because I really could use a muse booster so I'm not sure at this point what to do.

Fear not! We will post the art before Claims Day, so everyone gets a chance to peruse it all. And then when Claims kick off, we will ask folks to tell us their top five options. Hopefully, they'll get one of those five.

It's the way the event has always been run. The reason we haven't used multiple claims before is because customarily, the artists will continue on to work with the authors to provide more art for the fic being written. It becomes a collaboration, like a traditional bang, as opposed to an image prompt meme.

Though an image prompt meme does sound fun! It just isn't the way this event has evolved.
