2013 Round

We just wanted to let everyone know that there will be another round in 2013!

We are currently working out the details of that but want to give you a heads up that sign ups will start tomorrow. If you are curious about how the schedule will look we have it up in the profile. Also, an updated FAQ should be coming up sometime tonight.

If you have any questions/concerns/general thoughts before the new round please feel free to share them with us here.

I'm happy to hear this, as I participated from the beginning and it's one of my favorite challenges. I am however concerned about the very spread out schedule that's up in the profile right now. That seems to be based on much longer stories than are required.

Hey! We totally understand the concerns. The spread out schedule is more of a result of the challenge running a month later than last year (last round started on August 1st, this round starts on September 1st). If we had stuck to the exact time given last year we would have posting in December which is usually a really busy time for most people (not just the holidays but other holiday exchanges and challenges going on).

We got several people coming to us worried about that and ended up adding a week onto both the art time and the writing time (so artists and writers just get an extra week) and making for a longer period between the fic rough drafts due date and posting (which we plan on using to make sure everyone is ready to post and all stories have pinch hitters who will be ready as well - since last year several art pieces did not receive a story).

Thanks for explaining, I noticed other people's concerns about the earlier schedule and I understand this is catering to the authors. Unfortunately for me as an artist this makes it a very stretched out collaboration and there was a similar challenge this year that collapsed because it lost its momentum (for lack of a better word). I still think it's an awfully long time period for a non-bigbang, but majority rules, so I'll just have to reconsider if I personally can be involved this time;)

Totally understandable! Usually reverse bangs run a bit longer than this one has in the past (in general 2 months for art and 2 months for fics). Hopefully the longer collaboration period won't deter people too much. We are going to do our best to make sure people stay excited and involved, and will take into consideration those who rather be scheduled sooner than later.

At the end of the day posting in December just would not have worked, if this was a smaller challenge I would have gone for it (with just 2-3 weeks for posting) but because of the sheer size posting is expected to go for at least a month, maybe more.

Hopefully the collaboration time isn't too long for people, claims are mid October and fics post early January so it's just 2-3 months depending on the posting date a pair ends up with.

Although to be perfectly honest, I find it very strange that the authors get so much longer than the artists. I understand the December thing, but I reckon one more week for the artists wouldn't have hurt.

In any case, HUZZAH, so glad this is happening again this year! :D

That is something we've actually talking over (a lot of the mod team is made up of artists lol) and have gone ahead and added an extra week to the artist part of the schedule!

(the time between drafts due and posting is more to avoid the month for posting and for us to find pinch hitters and make sure every piece gets one!)
